The reaction by the leadership of Yala Progressives Political Group, YPPG, on the heels of clandestine moves to influence the State Assembly to drop Dr Igwe on what they described as figment of their imaginations.

Speaking on behalf of the youths, Comrade Ebriku John Friday, said the group making the baseless allegations is faceless and disgruntled elements.

Friday also challenged the group to tender the evidence of the alleged case Dr Igwe has with the Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC, and also said the false allegations while she was Bursar at the University of Calabar, was found baseless and she was exonerated, which she was given another promotion and appointment as the UniCal Liaison Officer.

He said: “We in Yala Progressives Political Group, YPPG, is highly disappointed by some disgruntled elements who call themselves leaders and are out to blackmail personalities who have added value to the lives of we the youths including women and overall development of Yala nation.

“Unequivocally, we want to state here that the faceless group is a mischievous and sponsored instruments of unscrupulous elements who does not mean well for Yala nation and Cross River State as a whole.

“The sponsors of this group, if they are bold and factual should tender the evidence of the case they alleged Dr Igwe has with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, or go and make their verification. As well as the their claim of payment of N20 million.

“We challenge them to show their face so that Yala will know them and asked them relevant questions and know who we are dealing with. They should come out clean and show the world the receipt of the so called payment of N20 million, if not they should bury their head in shame and perpetually remain in the darkest part of the dark.

“Some of them were expecting to be named because they are close to associates of the governor but were shocked that they didn’t make the list.

“Grace fell on a woman with track record of performance and positive impacts as a seasoned and an accomplished administrator.

“They said in their article that she has a pending case, we kindly ask them for the number of the case file as well as the pay slip of bank transfer of the alleged payment of N20 million, which is nothing but from the figment of their imagination.

“It is on this note we make bold to challenge anybody to come out with their unfounded lies as evidence to face the Yala nation then the people will know they are serious.”

According to him, Dr Igwe has been a silent philanthropist and had brought succour that has changed the lives of individuals and families.

“Yala people know the personality of Dr Beatrice Igwe who have positively over the years impacted the lives of the people but without loud publicity to depict her humility and focus.

“Indeed, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, in his wisdom nominated a thorough bred technocrat and experienced financial administrator with unmatched track record in the federal civil service before she voluntarily retired.

“We also use this medium to salute and commend our father and pillar, High Chief Higgins Peter for standing for what is right. Sir, we thank you immensely for standing against the plot of those disgruntled elements.

“We want you sir, to ensure your daughter, Dr Beatrice Igwe is cleared and sworn-in as Honourable Commissioner in Cross River State.

“Her personality is highly revered among her people, which they demonstrated when sighting the list of Commissioners nominees released by HE, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu with wild and resounding celebrations in appreciation of HE Senator Bassey Otu who promptly sent the much anticipated list to the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem.

“The people see Dr Igwe’s name on the list of Commissioner nominees as a good omen for the entire Cross River State based on her performance and impact while in public service.

“We as the youth of Yala nation including men and women have been empowered by Dr Igwe, and over 200 Yala people were employed into various government offices through her influence.

“As a seasoned Chartered Accountant and as Bursar of the University of Calabar added value to the lives of staff and students, hence received accolades and awards from different organisations.

“She is among the few prominent Nigerians honoured with the prestigious Honorary Doctorate degree of Science (D.Sc) in Financial Management and Corporate Governance by the European-American University (EAU), Commonwealth of Dominica, for the efficient application of accounting principles, procedures and practice in the University of Calabar,” he said.
