A group called Concerned Nigerians Group, CNG, yesterday, called for the resignation of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, over server controversy.
The call for Yakubu’s resignation was made at a press conference held in Abuja by leaders of the group who include Deji Adeyanju, Ariyo Atoye and Adebayo Raphael.
The group also alleged that the INEC boss was given over 2 billion to maintain the server but claimed that there is no server at the Commission’s headquarters.
The group said, “We call on President Muhammadu Buhari, to sack the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, because he has failed Nigerians and did not perform as expected or he should voluntarily resign based on the fact that he has failed.
“The budget he asked for to conduct the general elections in 2018 was given to him and apart from that he said no sever, which he has given over N2 billion to service the server at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, and he came on air telling Nigerians that there is no server.
“We call on President Buhari to set up a committee to investigate and probe him and he cannot be a judge on his own matter. Mr President should d sack him while the investigation goes on and if found guilty he should be dealt with according to law and if not he retains his seat. We give the President 48 hours to sack him.”
The group also called on the 9th Assembly to investigate the INEC boss, “We call on the National Assembly to also investigate him (Yakubu). We know that the server is at the INEC headquarters because the card readers are configured to send to the send to the server. We also have video evidences to prove our call for his sack”, it stated.
