One thing seems rare in our society today, a society that is rapidly growing wide apart from real time human relation and increasingly porous in the sphere of classless co-existence…. that is the rich living for the poor.
Here is a distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria epitomizing the true essence and respect for humanity.
Senator Andy Uba has today proven once again to be a man of the people who is ready to accommodate the constituent social strata of our society as he mingles with the commons, traders, including people living with disability.
Contrary to the popular belief, Senator Andy Uba despite his buissy schedule made out time to be with the people, took off his toga of ego, came down to the level of the common man as he interracted with all, including the youth and the children.
To the surprise of all, the amiable Senator, upon sighting a cheerful cripple on his wheel chair, called him up to his (Senator Andy) table, where they and a host of other delighted people (mostly youth, teeagers and children) dinned together at a local restaurant in Oye-Uga market Square, Aguate L.G.A, Anambra state.
When the enthralled crowd of jubilant on-lookers thought it was all over, the senator made another suprising but pleasant move when he stood up from his chair, and then helped wheel the crippled guy to the car.
Hospitality, care and tolerance are part of the fine elenents that make us first; humans and then great leaders. That is what Sen. Andy has just displayed.
One may say the Senator possesses an uncommon attribute of a true leader – humility , selflessness and respect for others.
Allow me to end with a quote from the Good Book- “he who must be a leader, must first be a servant”.
