Culture they say is the people’s way of life but a culture that is championed by aimless and jobless youth under the fragile custody of fickle and demoralised elders in a hopeless society, is bound to shrink, waver and shrivel.
It is in the recognition of the dire need for productive engagement of the youth especially, that the Anambra South Senator, Dr. Andy Uba has ceased an ample opportunity to empower the youth through capacity building.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Anambra State frontline guber contestant provided a good number of the youths in Ekiti, who are either doing nothing or just struggling to make ends meet; with brand new sets of sewing machine.
While presenting the machines to them,the senator said that his concern is to alliviate poverty and the only way to do that is by providing the people with a better alternative for decent living.
He emphasised that democracy would not have been actualised untill it is reflected in the individual lives of the people.
“I am not doing this empowerment just because am vying for the seat of the Governor..No! I am doing it because I want to help, I want people to be meaningfully engaged and I want people not just to live life but to enjoy life.
Democracy is all about the people and must therefore reflect in the lives of the people”.
Speaking to journalists, one of the beneficiaries -Precious Chike whose heart could not contain the joy said that the Senator has just given her a life-line adding that the sewing maching will go a long way in helping her to pursue her dreams of becoming a fashion designer.
“I have always dreamed of being a reputable fashion designer but have for long, had the challenge of getting a machine to start up. Now, here I am with a brand new sewing machine. …In fact am just short of words… all I can say to the Senator is : thank you very much”.
