Saifura Khorsa: Group Calls For Total Clampdown On Fleeing Boko Haram Terrorists, Sponsors

Published

on

…advises Nigerian Govt to change tactics
Renowned human right group, Global Amnesty Watch (GAW), has urged the Federal Government to device a total clamp down on fleeing elements of  the dreaded Boko Haram sect and their sponsors without any delay .
This comes after the recent murder of Red Cross aid worker and midwife, Saifura Khorsa which has drawn serious condemnation from both local and international community.
Khorsa was kidnapped in March along with two other health workers after an attack on a military facility in the town of Rann in Kala Balge area, Borno State.
Just before Khorsa’s murder was confirmed, the dreaded militants also threatened to harm abducted schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu.
In a statement released on Tuesday in London, GAW reasoned that Boko Haram’s latest strike could be out of frustration for the successes of the Nigerian troops.
The group questioned certain individuals and groups that had advocated conciliatory approach to the menace.
They, however, urged the FG to prepare contingent measures to visit the harshest consequences possible on the terrorists should anything happen to those they are holding.

The Global Amnesty Watch has condemned the killing of Red Cross aid worker, Saifura Khorsa by Boko Haram and threat to harm abducted schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu describing it as the lowest depth any human group has been known to sink to in annals.
Killing Saifura might have been Boko Haram’s desperate measure to keep sowing terror in the hearts of people but it is one the entire world must make them regret by collectively exacting justice. There are other ways the sponsors of this group and its fighters could have expressed their frustration at the serial defeat in the hands of the Nigerian military without harming civilian captives, which contravenes all known conventions and even the provision of Islam that Boko Haram claims as its inspiration.
Boko Haram must take seriously the warning that nothing must happen to Leah Sharibu with the other aid workers, Hauwa Mohammed Liman and Alice Loksha as this would be crossing a red line that would cause the world to demand the application of the stiffest response yet against whatever is left of the group.
The Global Amnesty Watch calls on groups and individuals that had advocated conciliatory approach in dealing with Boko Haram to at this time accept responsibility for reining in their minions since they share in the responsibility for the death of the aid worker and whatever happens to those still in captivity. The usual claim to have connections in the terror group is now being put to test.
Ahmad Salkida, Mama Boko Haram (Aisha Wakil), Amnesty International and others that have shielded the terrorists or condoned their acts in the past must accept the responsibility for preventing further mindlessness against captives that are now being threatened. It would be most unfortunate if these people only come to the media to play expert after harm has come the way of innocent people.
We charge foreign organizations and nations that have continued to overtly or covertly support Boko Haram to, for the sake of humanity, allow the killing of Saifura Khorsa and the threat to harm other captives to prick their conscience into realizing there is no strategic objective that is important enough to continue promoting conditions that allows remnants of Boko Haram space to continue inflicting pain on people.
While supporting any measures taken to ensure the safe return of the hostages still in Boko Haram captivity, we urge the Nigerian government to acknowledge that the time for being temperate in blotting out what Boko Haram stands for is over as the group has repeatedly shown that it is evil in its undiluted form. It must therefore prepare contingent measures to visit the harshest consequences possible on the terrorists should anything happen to those they are holding.
The Global Amnesty Watch expresses its condolences to the family of Saifura Khorsa, the Red Cross and the Federal Government of Nigeria. Our thoughts are with the families of Leah Sharibu, Hauwa Mohammed Liman and Alice Loksha as we hope that the terrorists holding them would come to the realization that releasing these hostages would be the best decision they can make in their lives.

JUST-IN: Gov Fubara returns to Port Harcourt as Tinubu ends Emergency Rule

Published

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, returned to the state on Friday, landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at about 11:55 a.m. to the cheers of his supporters who trooped out to welcome him.

His return comes hours after President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule imposed on the state on March 18, following a political crisis that saw Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, suspended from office.

Despite his arrival, the governor had yet to resume at the Government House office as of Friday afternoon. On Thursday, the Rivers State House of Assembly reconvened, but hundreds of Fubara’s supporters who had gathered at the Government House in anticipation of his return waited in vain.

During the emergency rule, Tinubu appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as sole administrator to oversee the state. In a farewell broadcast on Wednesday, Ibas handed over power and urged political actors in Rivers to embrace dialogue and mutual respect.

The crisis in the state began after Fubara fell out with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, over control of Rivers’ political structure. The feud split the state assembly and escalated into violent confrontations.

In June, Tinubu convened a reconciliation meeting with Fubara, Wike, Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, and other key stakeholders.

By July, Ibas inaugurated the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), led by Michael Odey, which conducted council elections across the state on August 30.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won 20 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured three.
