Virtue is defined by Cambridge Dictionary as a good moral quality in a person, or the general quality of being morally good. It is also said to be the behaviour showing high moral standards. Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo in his political sojourn over the the past two decades or more has through his actions shown that he is a paragon of virtue.
The former Member of Parliament indeed has unimpeachable moral or ethical values and has maintained this virtue in the Nigeria Political Space despite the deteriorating values, including avarice, hateful competition, toxic personality traits and corruption.
The virtue displayed by Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo is indeed redefining the ethos of the Nigeria Political Space in the fourth Republic. This many commentators have avered in recent times especially following his recent actions.
Without trying to soud immodest or playing his drum, it is on record that Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo was the first to call his opponent in the 2023 National Assembly Election to congratulate him after the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC announced the results.
Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo also refused to go to the National Assembly Election Petition tribunal to challenge the outcome of the Election; a position he held firmly to even against certain forces who thought it ought to be otherwise.
He went beyond these to send in his support to the newly elected member of Parliament during the inauguration of the National Assembly. He also urged constituents to give the representative their support to succeed as according to him “His success is the success of the Federal Constituency”
Recently, he embarked on a “Thank You Visit” to the Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Federal Constituency to thank his constituents for the support they gave him in the last eight years he represented them in the national Assembly. He climaxed this with Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service and Mass
It is on record that Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo has also continued with his empowerment programmes with sharing of hundreds of bikes to Constituents, facilitating Solar Power Installation and Maintenance Training for Five Hundred young people, provision of Solar street lights to the Federal Constituency and even commissioning of projects.
He has promised to do more and also continue to support his loyalists, party faithfuls and stakeholders even out of office. He has in addition made commitments to remain accessible and responsive to their needs .
These and more are unprecedented in the history of politics in the Federal Constituency, the State and the nation in the fourth Republic. It is indeed worthy of emulation by other politicians and elected representatives in Nigeria if we must improve our political space and play politics with ethics.
Thank you Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo for leading a new breed of politicians in Nigeria. You are indeed leaving your footprints on the sands of time. Posterity will be fair to your name and greater responsibilities are coming your way.
