…Receives Real Estate CEO of the Year Award
By Ebriku John Friday
The Managing Director of Delta Mega Trend, owners of the Plantation City and Southbrook Estate, Warri, Delta State, Nigeria has said that the vicious and unfortunate destruction of property during the violent stage of the EndSARS’ protest will spur a new preference, in the property market, for gated and secure communities, complete with well-stocked commercial area.
He made this known while reacting to the level of destruction that greeted businesses and investments across the country in the wake of the EndSARS protest across the country.
Mr Ogrih who received the Real Estate CEO of the Year award during the 4th Nigeria International Housing Award, 2020 organized by the Nigeria Housing Advocacy Network, (NHAN), organizers of the annual event, maintained that “the huge loss suffered in the private and public sectors will make Nigerians see the wisdom in insuring their property, private and commercial, as well as insure the goods in shops and stores.”
Continuing, he maintained, “The Plantation City, a first-rate gated community in Warri, was planned from inception to check insecurity and minimize resident’s exposure to violent clashes in Warri.”
The plantation city borrowed fine features from some equally sturdy communities, including the Victoria Garden City, and Northern Foreshore in Lagos.
While responding to the recent slowdown in the country’s property market, the Harvard Alumni stated that this was a “temporary setback,” adding that he foresees more gated property, with emphasis on security, being built in future. “I see a situation where some people who built homes in open places will sell or rent their property and buy in gated communities that are secure. Thus, they would pass their security concerns to the management of their new community, “he said.
He also charged the corporates to focus more on strategic social responsibility (CSR) programmes, particularly to their host/immediate communities.
The award was received on behalf of the CEO by the head of business development, Mr Oreva Ogrih.
The event which was chaired by the former minister of solid minerals, Abubakar Bwari, also had in attendance over 100 major real estate stakeholders from Nigeria and across Africa.
This adds to the growing list of awards and honours conferred on Mr Ogrih for his exceptional entrepreneurial skills and commitment to jobs and wealth creation in Nigeria and Africa at large.
Earlier this year, Mr Ogrih was honoured by Rotary International for supporting the work of the organization to improve lives. In a letter jointly signed by Holger Knaack, President, Rotary International 2020-21; K.R. Ravindran, Chair, The Rotary Foundation, 2020-21, on behalf of the board of directors, the organization acknowledged his contributions towards supporting the work of Rotary International.
He was also recently honoured by the government and the state of Georgia, USA, with an honorary citizenship and congressional commendation; CEO of the Year by CEOs Club Network, Nigeria; Business Leadership Excellence Award, by African Leadership Magazine U.K.; Africa’s Patriotic Personality of the Year Award, by The League of African Development Students, among others.
