PDP Is Broke, As Sheriff Ask NWC To account for Missing N12bn

The embattled new national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, has demanded the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, to account for N12 billion realised during the 2015 general election.

According a reliable source in the party this came on the heels of the NWC handing over a debt of over N980 million to Sheriff as his first challenge to grapple with after taking over the responsibilities of running the opposition party.

The source, who is sadden by the dwindling fortune of the party, further disclosed that the party is badly broke. The drama, he said, is becoming interesting, adding that this will be Sheriff’s first acid test to determine the level of his integrity.

He said, “NWC handed over a debt of N980 million to Sheriff. He rejected it and queried them to account for the N12 billion they realised during the 2015 elections.

“The drama is becoming interesting. This is his acid test to determine the level of his integrity.”

The former governor, who emergence is generating controversy with rejections coming from various stakeholders of the party.

Already a faction in the party, the PDP Rescue Group, has called for his resignation, insisting on due process to be followed in electing its party national leaders.

Also, the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the party has aligned its voice with the call for Sheriff’s to quit as the party’s national chairman.

Meanwhile, PDP former ministers are meeting today and the outcome of the meeting further put pressure on Sheriff. The former ministers have already rejected his selection.

The Wilberforce Juta-led PDP Rescue Group has earlier made a call to end the era of impunity in the party, which they according to them brought Sheriff on board.

They also warned that if the syndrome of impunity continues the party will decimate, and said everything should be done to avoid it.
