Oyo APC Group Denies Alleged Plan To Burn Party Secretariat

The Unity Forum of the Oyo State All Progressives Congress, (APC), has dismissed the allegation by the state government that the group‎ plans to burn the party’s secretariat along Oke-Ado road, Ibadan, saying the allegation is nothing but a tissue of lies.

The group in a statement signed by its secretary, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, described the allegation as one of the plot to prevent members of the group from participating in the next local government congress of the party.

It also stated that it was a plot to clampdown on members of the forum and begin their physical elimination by the government.

According to the Forum, the author of the statement, Morounkola Thomas who is the Executive Assistant to the governor was already under investigation for a plot to assassinate a member of the Forum, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu.

The state government, had through his executive assistant on political matters, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, ‎accused members of the party of planning to burn down the state secretariat of the party in their desperate bid to scuttle Saturday’s local government election and party congresses.‎”

This is coming few days after members of the Unity Group triumphed over Ajimobi’s loyalists as they failed to obtain nomination forms for the just concluded ward congress of the party.

The group, however, said that its members were more than determined to claim their rightful place in the party, advising the governor as the chief security officer of the state to beef up security since they have uncovered the alleged plan.

The statement reads: ‎”We found the statement laughable and it could only have come from somebody like Morohunkola Thomas, somebody we can describe as a political harlot, who benefits during political crisis. And such person, who can do any dirty job as he has lost the little integrity he had, perfectly fits into Ajimobi’s cabinet.

“It is shameful that the outgoing Abiola Ajimobi administration is advertising its ignorance publicly. Imagine a government that claims to have invested heavily in security coming out to say it has uncovered a plot by a group to burn down a party house. Rather than intimidate anybody, why haven’t they swung into action.

‘’We believe it is an attempt to silence us and nothing of such will deter us. Most of our members are people who have participated in pro-democracy activities, when things were worse; these are people who have had to bear all intimidation and harassment, as opposition party members between 2003 and 2011.’’
