Cross River State Commissioner Nominee, Distinguished Senator Stephen Odey Ph D has said his nomination was a call to service, saying he will give his best serve Cross River State and Nigeria at large.
Senator Odey, who said he was not screened but asked to take a bow, while addressing journalist in Calabar on Monday, stated that the constituted members of the Cross River State House of Assembly committee set up to screen commissioner nominees are his junior colleagues.
It would be recalled that Senator Odey was among the 26-man list of commissioner nominees by Cross River Governor, Sen Prince Bassey Otu , which was submitted to the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Elvert Eyambem last Friday in Calabar.
The former Senator representing Cross North Senatorial District in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly while speaking with journalists after his meeting with the State House members said, he was there to play his role as a man of due process.
He stated that he can perform any role in this country if given the opportunity, adding that Cross Riverians should expect nothing but the best in the new cabinet.
He said, “You see it, I was not screened, I was asked to take a bow. They are my junior colleagues. But as a man of due process I have to come. I have played my role.”
Asked what Cross Riverians should look forward to in the cabinet, the seasoned administrator, astute academician and politician said, they should look forward to “The best ever.”
He added that, “When I was here from 2015 till date, I was Chairman of SUBEB, I was not in the state executive council. And today based on the fact that I have been cleared by my junior colleagues, like I have said. Then you should expect the best.
“There is no role I cannot perform in this country. Give me the opportunity. I just pity those who feel that I am above this level. It is call to service. Those who don’t have the opportunity are crying, I am not crying. I want to give my best to Cross River State and Nigeria at large.”
