Katsina Polytechnic senior lecturer and Special Adviser to Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari on Higher Education until Wednesday, May 29, 2019, Dr. Bishir Ruwangodiya, abducted by gunmen on Friday regained his freedom on Saturday.
Ruwangodiya was reportedly sent to deliver ransom placed on the polytechnic lecturer in the kidnappers’ den, Dr. Bello Birchi, when in a sudden twist of fate he was also kidnapped the gunmen.
It was gathered that the suspected bandits seized Ruwangodiya following the escape of Birchi from their enclave before the former governor’s aide arrived at their camp with the ransom.
Sources further revealed that Dr. Birchi, who was however abducted in the forest by a different gang of hoodlums in the process of exiting from the jungle, was still in captivity and fresh contacts were yet to be established with his kidnappers.
A senior staff of the polytechnic, who confirmed the incident on the condition of anonymity, said the kidnappers placed another ransom on Ruwangodiya before he was set free but could not give details of the matter.
The Katsina State police spokesman, SP Isah Gambo, confirmed on Thursday evening that Dr. Birchi was kidnapped that fateful morning at Tashar Barau village close from the polytechnic, along Dutsinma – Katsina Road, saying police operatives were doing their best to rescue him.
However, he could not be reached again as at press time yesterday on the latest incident but a source closed to the police said no arrest has been made in connection with the abduction saga.
The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of the polytechnic (ASUP), Dr. Sabiu Yau Abdullahi, told newsmen that the polytechnic community was quite disturbed over the unfortunate development.
