The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said on Friday that the Lagos-Kano Rail undertaking would be finished in the next two years.
Amaechi, who said this while examining the Abuja-Kaduna rail venture in Kaduna, also said that it would produce livelihood for 250,000 Nigerians.
He said the continuous rail venture from Lagos-Kano and Lagos-Calabar would produce more livelihood than the Abuja-Kaduna rail modernisation venture.
He stated that a training institute would be established by the Chinese company to train Nigerians on operations, maintenance and correspondence.
“For the Lagos-Kano and Lagos-Calabar rail venture, we hope to produce such as 250,000 work opportunities both formal and casual. We are arranging with General Electric in America to build a tight gage from Lagos to Kano and they can’t run that without preparing Nigerians.”
“In the event that the correspondence framework goes down how would we resuscitate it, so they would likewise show Nigerians how to look after it.
“If we need to supplant it, how would we supplant it, so the key thing is exchange of innovation and that will be the center of the service.”
Amaechi further said that government would guarantee that the rail administration was reasonably priced for the masses.
