The directive was given following a motion moved on the matter by the Senator representing Cross Rivers North Senatorial District, Dr Rose Oko, on the floor seeking thorough investigation into the matter with a view to bringing anyone found culpable of her death to book and putting an end to such painful deaths which she said have been going on in different parts of the country.
Cross River born Miss Joy Odama, an undergraduate of Mass Communication was reported weeks back to have died mysteriously on the 22nd December after the Alhaji, to whom she and her friend went for scholarship as the man was famous for assisting young ones with scholarship to complete their studies, invited her and others to be in his house and watch over his sick house maid after which he would attend to their scholarship needs.
Speaking to journalists after the plenary Dr Oko said, “What we are saying is that proper investigation be carried out to unravel the cause of her mysterious death so that anyone found wanting would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others who are indulging in such nefarious activities.
“This case is clear; somebody in custody of another was found dead inexplicably, what else do you want to see. We must go after perpetrators of such acts and when found guilty, prosecute them so that people will know that in Nigeria, you don’t commit such atrocious acts and go scot-free. This is not the first time this kind of thing is happening in Nigeria; there has been series of such.”
Speaking on the rival cult clash which claimed two lives in Cross Rivers on Monday, the Senator said cultism was rampant in the State some years back before the story changed a few years ago and less was seen of cult activities in the are
“What is happening now is that it is resurfacing. I urge the state government and other concerned authorities to rise up to the occasion and stem the tide,” she said.
