The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) has organised a 2-days National Transparency and Accountability Capacity Building Workshop for State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs), at ICPC Auditorium, Abuja.
The event with the theme Transparency and Accountability: A Veritable Tool For An Effective and Corruption-Free Basic Education In Nigeria, kicked off on Wednesday 4th and ended on Thursday 5th April, 2018.
The workshop which was well attended by the Cross River SUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr Stephen Odey and other Management Staff is specifically aimed at promoting a culture of integrity, transparency and accountability in the business of government in the State Universal Basic Education Boards , as well as building the capacity of participants to relate to potentials and actual corruption and corrupt practices in their workplace.
Dr Stephen Odey said the workshop was timely as it has armed participants with the skills necessary to nip corruption in the bud, while also revealing the role they play in the fight against corruption.
While calling on contractors who are yet to complete SUBEB projects to do so, Dr Odey warned that the ICPC was out to get those who will be found wanting.
Other Staff of the Board who attended include; Board Secretary, Cyril Itam, Head of Accounts, Fidelis Ntor, Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Nkanu Egbula.
The event featured paper presentations on Public Procurement and the Challenge of Project Abandonment, Fostering Transparency and accountability in the processes of SUBEBs, the Integrity Imperative in Basic Education, amongst others.
