GOV AYADE WANTS DEVT TO TRICKLE DOWN TO LOCAL GOVTS – HON STELLA ODEY

Cross River State Government through the Ministry of Local Government Affairs has charged all local government administrators on the need for development to trickle down to the grassroots.

The Honorable Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Stella Oreme Odey, stated this in Yakurr Local Government Area while on inspection tour of the LGA stated that the state governor, Sir Ben Ayade passionately wants development to trickle down to the local governments.

The commissioner, who said she was sent by the His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, Sir Ben Ayade to inspect and see things for him and identify possible intervention needs, stated that, the local government system being the closest to the rural dwellers must exist and keep existing for the benefit of the rural populace especially the downtrodden. She said, “His Excellency is concerned about the poor masses in our villages”.

Addressing the staff of Yakurr, the Commissioner advised that, in department where there is deficit of staff, staff from other flooded department could be trained to undertake certain tasks.

Hon. Odey further directed that, all broken boreholes be fixed by the contractors that drilled them, while also urging that, proper geophysical examination be carried out before drilling next time.

The commissioner submitted that the concept of Governor Ben Ayade’s intellectual money is realisable and should be embraced instead of complaining of paucity of funds. She admonished the HOLGA and staff to device possible ways of generating revenue.

Welcoming the Honourable Commissioner and her team, the Head of Local Government Administration, HOLGA, Elder Paul Ndifon A., applauded the Honorable Commissioner on her appointment into the ministry of LG Affairs.

He said, It is obvious that the Commissioner’s competency and laudable efforts in the previous ministry elevated her to the present ministry.

He said, “We are indeed thankful to His Excellency, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade for appointing you into the ministry. This is the first of its kind in the ministry of Local Government Affairs where a sitting Commissioner is embarking on assessment tour round the 18 LGAs of the state.”

The Commissioner thereafter, inspected the newly built 26mw power plant by the Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade-led administration.

The director of Administration, Barr. Leonard Egede, Director inspectorate, Mr. Sylvanus Enang, Director of information, Mrs Patricia Ikpai, Pastor Engr. Harrison Ogar of the inspectorate department, were all in the inspection team.
