Cross River State Governor, His Excellency, Ben Ayade, determination of making community’s and dwellers of Ogoja Local Government Area in Cross River State, enjoy 24-hour uninterrupted power supply dived to fulfillment, at the weekend, as the Governor test runed 2MVA Power Plant’ to supply leccy to Ogoja residers.
Governor Ayade who was represented at the conducted exercise by the Commissioner for Power, Rt. Hon. Victor Agwu, said, The Governor’s fulfillment of his promise is yet another milestones attained to upheave local businesses as well as, vouchsafe the dwellers a convenient and penny lifestyle, alternate source to fuel.
According to him, “One of the major drivers of the economy is recognised as power. The status quo of public power supply in the State has, however, been abysmal, with a daily supply downtime as high as 22 hours.
“This situation predates the current administration, without much efforts at addressing it. Ayade’s administration has sought to confront the problem, resulting in the construction of 5 power plants of a combined total capacity of 33.5,” The Commissioner, Said.
He, however, stressed on the MVA capacity across the State including Ogoja plant being test-runed and set to supply steady power in Ogoja district’s also noting, the 2 MVA Ugep power plant, 23 MVA Calabar power plant, 3.5 MVA and the 3 MVA Obudu power plants, a combined total capacity of 33.5 MVA, built by Governor Ben Ayade.
Ayade’s aggressiveness to augment the public power supply was kicked off in year 2018, with the construction of an in-house capacity by the Ministry for Power to evacuate power across to State’s.
Dignitaries present at the exercise were: Hon. Emmanuel Ishabor, Chairman Ogoja Local Government Area; Hon. kenn Aklan, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Government House and Events Management; Engr. Nicholas Mogbor, Projects Engineer; and Engr. Innocent Inaku of PHED was on ground to give a brief on the mode of operation and power supply.
