Wife of the president, Mrs. Aisha Mohammadu Buhari, on Wednesday presented relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who are victims of suspected Fulani Mercenary attacks in Benue State, drawn from Agatu, Buruku, Apa, Logo and other affected areas across the state.
Presenting the materials, Mrs. Buhari, who was represented by wife of the vice president, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, sympathized with the people of the state and promised to convey what she has seen in Benue to the president for further action.
Speaking on behalf of the IDPs, the Ochi Agatu stressed the fact that what the people in the affected areas want is nothing other than peace.
Emphasizing further that the attackers are not the conventional Fulanis they are used to and therefore more military action is needed to forestall reoccurrence and sustainable peace.
In his remark, Benue State governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom stated, inter alia, that Benue people are known for farming as the Food Basket of the Nation, any attack on Benue Farmers would therefore have negative multiplier effect on Food Security in the entire country.
He also buttressed the that the attackers are definitely not Nigerian Fulanis but obviously invaders from Mali, Niger, Chad, Ghana or etc., appealing that Federal Government should take necessary action to chase them out of Benue as there is no grazing land in the state.
The governor finally called for intervention from the FGN and corporate organizations to aid in the reconstruction of the areas affected by collateral damage as a result of the insurgency, which according to him is more than the quantum damage by Boko Haram in the North East.
