Eghosa Asemota Agbonifo calls for youths to take their destinies in their hands as campaign train hits Oredo.

Oredo was agog today as it played host to the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the forthcoming general elections.

The Presidential candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri of Adamawa, was ably represented by his wife, Mrs Jennifer Atiku,  the Senatorial candidate for Edo South senatorial district, Sen Matthew Urhoghide was on ground.

Others include, Hon. Ogbeide Ihama, the Federal Representative candidate for Oredo was on ground, Hon Omosede Igbinedion, and the two House of Assembly candidates for Oredo East and West, Hon. (Lion) Okoro and Hon. Eghosa Asemota Agbonifo were also on ground. The state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, State DG for presidential election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and other prominent party leaders were all in attendance.

In his short address, Hon. Eghosa Asemota Agbonifo, amidst cheers from his supporters, charged the youths to take their destinies in their hands.

“I threw my hat in the ring not because I was jobless, or wanted to test the waters, but I don’t want to keep telling my children that they are the leaders of tomorrow when I have not been able to lead in my own time”, he said.

He went further to say; “we cannot continue to sit on the fence and watch our future taken away from us. The youths make up over 60% of our entire population, and can comfortably dare the older generation and win elections if only we stand together on a common front”.

He also talked about the challenge of leadership in the country, making emphasis on the need to have a new yardstick in measuring good governance. He told the audience that his core concern is to change the narrative and the yardstick in rating legislators achievements in the state.

He called on all well-meaning Nigerians and voters, (especially those in Oredo west), to go get their PVCs, and also to stand up and vote for credible candidates in the forthcoming general elections. He warned that they should not be bothered by the threats that the votes won’t count.

He concluded by telling them to play their part by coming out to vote.
