Following reports of spirited activities of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth leaders across communities of Esan South-West Local government of Edo State, the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole may have allegedly ordered for their immediate arrest.
The alleged order of arrest it was gathered will be targeted at the PDP youth leaders whose names have been forwarded to the governor and the Edo State commissioner of police, Mr Samuel Adegbuyi.
A source who was at a meeting where the list was drafted said “After the light engagement yesterday between PDP youth leaders and an APC chieftain in Ewohim community, Mr Victor Eboigbe and some of his thugs, the APC party members entered into a meeting that lasted into the wee hours of the night.”
The source further said that the APC are jittery and are lost as to how their loyalist are defecting to the opposition PDP as a result of the aggressive campaign strategy embarked upon by the PDP youths leaders across the community of Esan South.
According the source, if the activities of the PDP youth leaders are left unchecked till the day of election, the APC will suffer a humiliating defeat. It was also gathered that one Oyedo Solomon, another APC chieftain in the Ewohim community gave additional names of some of the youth leaders which will be sent to the state commissioner of police on Thursday. It was also learnt that if the arrest will be effected, those involved will be rendered incommunicado until September 10 when they will be returned to the police divisional headquarters in the local government.
The PDP youth leaders who got wind of the plot have assured their teeming youth followers not to be intimidated but pursue their course with determination.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the force was not able to confirm whether there was such order as at the time of publishing this report.
It would be recalled that crisis was averted on Wednesday when an APC chieftain Eboigbe and some thugs disrupted PDP youth leaders sensitisation programme in Ewohim community ahead of the party’s campaign rally on Thursday.
