The Commissioner for Education, Stephen Odey Ph D, has charged the Cross River Institute of Technology and Management (CR-ITM) Ugep, to attain quality standard in education and make the institution stand tall amongst its equals in the country.
The Commissioner gave this charge at a courtesy visit paid on him by the Management team of Cross River Institute of Technology and Management (CR-ITM), Ugep, earlier on Monday September 4, 2023.
Senator Odey noted that as a supervisory Ministry, it is important to be abreast with the status of the Institute in areas of; students enrollment, number of courses offered and accredited courses.
The Commissioner further advised the Management of the Institute to sensitize the public on the activities of the institution, stating that, “when you are not informed you are deformed.”
Speaking earlier, the Rector, Cross River Institute of Technology and Management, Ugep, Dr. Jeffery Thompson, stated that the purpose of their visit was to congratulate him on his appointment as Commissioner and to brief him on the activities of the institution.
He listed some challenges faced by the institute to include: Lack of funds, deplorable state of some infrastructures and shortage of Manpower.
Dr. Thompson informed that for the institution to be accredited partially as a Polytechnic and the name change appropriately, there is need to have some courses such as Civil and Electrical Engineering accredited by 2024.
Senator Odey appreciates their visit, while assuring them of how the Governor, Sen Prince Bassey Otu ‘s led administration is poised to deliver maximally in the education sector of the State.
