CNN Report Calls PDP Chairman Boko Haram Sponsor

US-based Cable Network News (CNN) has referred to the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, as Boko Haram sponsor in its news bulletin air in the international news source on Wednesday.

But speaking to ThisDay at the weekend, Sheriff said, “I am neither founder nor sponsor of Boko Haram sect”.

The former Borno Stategovernor reminded Nigerians, he had also been a victim of the Boko Haram attacks which led to the death of his blood brother as well as other relations.

He said, “Boko Haram wanted to kill me at a time because they believed that I was the one that reported them to President Umaru Yar’Adua to destroy their enclave. It was after I left government that they moved to their different camps and bushes. Why should they kill my brother? Why should they kill my family if am a sponsor of Boko Haram? Is there anywhere in the world that you sponsor people to kill you?”

But the CNN report,  a globally reputable and respected media organisation, which categorically referred to  Sheriff as the sponsor of the insurgents may have thrown up a new debate across the country and as a party stalwart said earlier in the week ‘a litmus test on his integrity’.

Already, Sheriff’s emergency has been widely and sternly rejected by various stakeholders in the party such as, the Board of trustees, Forum of PDP formers, PDP Rescue Group and others.

These various organs of the party are insisting Sheriff must quit as chairman and a constitutional process for the election of its national leaders be set in motion.

In all these recent developments in the now opposition party, Nigerians are wandering why the palpable silence from its National Assembly members?
