Ahead of the November 18 Anambra State governorship election, Senator Andy Uba, representing Anambra central senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday picked his expression of interest and nomination forms in the company of 40 senator’s at the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.
This is just as the frontline aspirant has said he is the only candidate with the pedigree, capacity, experience and structures on ground to defeat the incumbent and win the governorship election for his party.
He also debunked reports that he was planning to leave the APC for his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying it was a cheap blackmail and a blatant lie from his opponents.
The APC governorship aspirant who arrived the APC headquarters at about 1pm was greeted by his teeming supporters, who arrived early to show their support and solidarity.
Soon after his arrival, he moved to the office of the APC organising secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso, for the business of the day, which was to pick his expression of interest and nomination forms.
Presenting the forms to him, Senator Izunaso urged him to abide by the party’s guidelines towards ensuring a peaceful and violence free primaries. He said, you will help us tell your supporters to abide by the guidelines of our party and conduct themselves peacefully during the primary, because we are one big happy family.
Responding, Senator Uba, expressed his delight to be in the party’s headquarters to pick his forms and assured that he will use his structures to get the much needed victory for the party. He reiterated that he was not leaving the party as being reported.
Speaking with journalists, he said, “I am here to pick my nomination forms for the governorship election of Anambra State for November 18, 2017.”
On his chances, he said, “One I have been a governor in Anambra State before, secondly, I am a two term senator. I have my structures, I have all the experience. I cannot see why I cannot win.
“Those who are contesting with me don’t have my pedigree and they are not prepared. And we have a sitting governor. We need somebody with the capacity. And I think I have that capacity. And with the support of all my colleagues in the Senate from the 36 states of the federation, I don’t see how I and my party, the APC cannot win that election.”
On his alleged plans to leave the APC, Senator Uba said, “It is a blackmail. They just want to sabotage me. They know that I am on ground. I have my structures and what I have done for Anambra people. You can go and check, no senator have done what I have done in Anambra State. And so I have the evidence. I is proven. They are they for the people to see. So what my opponents are doing is to blackmail me. It is a total lie. I stand by APC and nothing can make me change that position. ”
