AU ECOSOCC, China To Partner On Cultural, Education Exchange

The Africa Union – Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AU ECOSOCC) and the Peoples Republic of China are set to collaborate on the promotion of cultural and educational exchange between the African and Chinese young people.

This will form part of the objective for the 20 member delegation which will be led by Mr. Fang Qiu, Counselor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that will be visiting the Council’s secretariat at Addis Ababa on May 27. Thereafter will visit Kenya, South Africa and the African Union

Media assistant to the presiding office, Oba Olasunkanmi John, said this is part of the outcome of the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Johannesburg that discussed the cooperation in boosting the people-to-people exchanges between Africa and China.

There will be bilateral meeting which could lead to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two sides. China delegation will include experts from key Chinese universities, china scholarship council, china Ministry of Education as well as ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Delegations from the ECOSOCC to be led by Presiding Officer, Dr. Joseph Chilengi, will also be visiting the China in the second half of the year with the aim of consolidating and if possible sign an MoU while steering committee comprising of Africa and China will be establish with Beijing determining the number and size of the delegation, agenda of the programme with possible dates.

Dr. Chilengi gives assurance that information on the visit will be passed to all members to keep them abreast of happenings as usual.
