Barely 24 hours after a civil society group paid the requisite N45 million to purchase the All Progressive Congress, APC, presidential form for  Muhammadu Buhari, another has volunteered to do likewise.
The Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors Network (NCAN) had on Wednesday obtained the form for Mr Buhari.
Now the Northeast Vanaguard for Peace (NEVP) is ready to pick up another for the incumbent whether or not he chooses to seek re-election.
The group, who are critical stakeholders in the region, believes the President has done enough, especially in the area of terrorism, terminating the existence of the dreaded Boko Haram.
NEVP is renowned for it’s tireless role in ending the crisis in the region which spread like wildfire during the past administration.
As the eyes of the North East, they believe peace and normalcy has been restored all thanks to the 75-year-old.
In a press statement, NEVP summarized that Buhari’s “track record of performance in the critical security sector of the country” as the main purpose for their backing.
They added that it was only logical to appreciate him with relection and pledged to mobilize the entire region in the president’s favour.

*NORTHEAST VANGUARD FOR PEACE*
 _PRESS RELEASE_
*A CLARION CALL TO SERVICE IN SUPPORT OF THE RE-ELECTION BID OF PRESIDENT MUHAMADU BUHARI*
1. The North East Vanguard for Peace (NEVP), a pressure group committed to the sustenance of peace and harmony in North East Nigeria, hereby throws its weight behind the re-election bid of our indefatigable President Muhammdu Buhari.
2. It is succinct to state the North East Vanguard for Peace had been at the forefront of propagating the message of peace throughout the North East region of Nigeria in the past five years.
3. We also wish to state in unequivocally terms that the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari is indeed a welcome and worthy development given his track record of performance in the critical security sector of the country.
4. We are as stakeholders in the ongoing war against Boko Haram Terrorists in North East Nigeria is conversant of the efforts and the grounds that have been gained in rooting Boko Haram terrorist from the region, and also regaining local government areas that were once under their enclave before 2015.
5.  Before 2015, NEVP in some of its community outreach programmes witnessed firsthand, the wanton destruction of lives and properties by Boko Haram terrorist, and how life was unbearable for most families. It was such a trying and horrible time for communities in North East Nigeria.
6. All of these changed after the election of President Muhammdu Buhari, who demonstrated a commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of ordinary Nigerians, especially those in the war-torn North East Nigeria.
7.  As at today, 99 percent of the communities once held by insurgents have been liberated, and today things have all returned to normalcy for the good of the citizens of Nigeria. But a few political thugs masquerading as Boko Haram.
8. Markets have all been opened, and everything has returned to normalcy. Elections can now hold in all the LGA, towns and villages.
9. Consequent upon the above, the members of the North East Vanguard for Peace came to the worthy conclusion that the only way to appreciate President Muhammdu Buhari is to lead the Vanguard for his re-election in the following ways;
10. The North East Vanguard for Peace has elected to purchase the presidential nomination forms for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari, regardless of whether other groups have chosen to do the same.
11. This gesture is symbolic for members of NorthEast Vanguard for Peace because as critical stakeholders in North East Nigeria, whose members have been directly and indirectly affected by the Boko Haram menace, it behoves on us to lead the re-election campaign of President Muhammdu Buhari by this heartfelt gesture.
12. The North East Vanguard for Peace would also use its network in the North East region to canvass for votes for President Muhammdu Buhari in the forthcoming presidential elections because as stated earlier, we were witness to the decimation of the North East region. And we are also witnessing to the enormous efforts the Buhari Led administration had committed into bringing peace to the area. For all of these, we are grateful.
13. We also wish to crave the indulgence of Mr President to graciously approve our mobilisation efforts by giving the go ahead for the NorthEast Vanguard for Peace to organise mobilization rallies in the 6 states and a grand event in Abuja for Nigerians to further appreciate the impact of the Buhari administration on curtailing Boko Haram terrorism in our country.
14. This in our considered opinion will give Mr President the needed boost to go into the election triumphantly because of our ability to reach out to our fellow countrymen across the various tribes and religions in the country.
15. We also wish to assure President Muhammdu Buhari that his efforts towards restoring peace to the North East region would not be in vain as the Nigeria Military have been working round the clock to root out the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in the region.

JUST-IN: Gov Fubara returns to Port Harcourt as Tinubu ends Emergency Rule

Published

on

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, returned to the state on Friday, landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at about 11:55 a.m. to the cheers of his supporters who trooped out to welcome him.

His return comes hours after President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule imposed on the state on March 18, following a political crisis that saw Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, suspended from office.

Despite his arrival, the governor had yet to resume at the Government House office as of Friday afternoon. On Thursday, the Rivers State House of Assembly reconvened, but hundreds of Fubara’s supporters who had gathered at the Government House in anticipation of his return waited in vain.

During the emergency rule, Tinubu appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as sole administrator to oversee the state. In a farewell broadcast on Wednesday, Ibas handed over power and urged political actors in Rivers to embrace dialogue and mutual respect.

The crisis in the state began after Fubara fell out with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, over control of Rivers’ political structure. The feud split the state assembly and escalated into violent confrontations.

In June, Tinubu convened a reconciliation meeting with Fubara, Wike, Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, and other key stakeholders.

By July, Ibas inaugurated the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), led by Michael Odey, which conducted council elections across the state on August 30.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won 20 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured three.
