…as octogenarian mobilizes Yala communities for massive votes
As political activities gather momentum ahead of 2019, the traditional council of chief of Okpoma have unanimously endorsed and vowed to return the senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District of Cross River State, Dr Rose Oko, to the Senate for another four year term.
The declaration was made Wednesday at a crucial meeting of the chiefs where they agreed to give their support to Sen Oko. The meeting was held at Olachor in Okpoma, the headquarters of Yala Local Government Area.
Some of the personalities that were present at the declaration for Sen Oko’s re-election include Chief Elder Akpa Ebony; Chief Ogar Idiku, the Adamede 1 of Ayi Oko, among other top chiefs of the council.
Speaking during meeting of the chiefs and elders of the land, a former councilor of Okpoma Ward, Hon. Stephen Ogar, who also coordinated things, said the essence of the unanimous decision of the custodians of the land is not far-fetched based on the senator’s sheer integrity and selfless service rendered in transforming the lives of the people in various areas and her track record of performance.
Ogar further stated that the projects and programmes of the Senator for the past three years have made tremendous impact which is unparallel, therefore have gained the people’s support and confidence to conveniently vow to ensure she is re-elected come 2019 general elections.
Explaining why the people wants her back to the red chamber in 2019, he said they want to see more meaningful development and they can only rely on her representation because she has used the mandate given to her well.
Also speaking during the top notch meeting, an octogenarian and second republic political chieftain of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), and United Party of Nigeria (UPN), and a custodian of the land, Chief Elder Akpa Ebinyi, charged the people to speak with one voice which has been the trademark of the Yala nation right from time when supporting their own.
Akpa said the performance of Senator Oko remains an eye opener and he has seen the impact positively on the people, therefore called on other communities across Yala to support their daughter, to continue the responsive representation as she seeks re-election in 2019.
“I call on all on other communities across Cross River North Senatorial District to support our daughter, Senator Dr Rose Oko, in her bid to seek reelection to the Senate in 2019. It is our turn now. We supported their sons and daughters in the past. I implore them to give our daughter their support and massively vote for her”, he stated.
