A recent media report infers that the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiite sect), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, ‘is blinded in one eye’ due to a gunshot wound to the skull.
El-Zakzaky reportedly suffered the injuries in December 2015, when soldiers in the convoy of the Nigerian Army Chief, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, clashed with members of the Shiite sect.
According to Sahara Reporters, a source within the Department of State Services disclosed that the Shiite leader will not be released anytime soon due to the grievous injuries he and his wife sustained during the clash.
It was further revealed that the DSS is in a conundrum -on how to release the Islamic leader in his present state.
The source was quoted to have said:“[Sheikh Zakzaky] is blinded in one eye from a bullet wound to the skull”
It would be recalled that the violent face off took place at the headquarters of the group in Zaria, Kaduna state, leading to the death of several individuals -including three sons of the wounded El-Zakzaky.
