The empowerment programme by the Senator represent Northern Senatorial district of Cross a River in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, Dr Rose Okoji Oko, the member representing Cross River north senatorial district in the national Assembly, held on Friday, July 20, 2018, took place at Ogoja stadium as scheduled.
The occasion was graced by, Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade, his deputy Prof Ivara Esu, former governor Senator Liyel Imoke, former deputy governor Barr Ifiok Cobham, a former senator, minister and Attorney general of the federation, Senator Kanu Agabi (SAN), who was also the chairman of the occasion, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state chairman and his executives, the Paramount ruler of Yala Local Government Area, HRH Ogamode Ipuole and his Obudu counterpart, HRH Jeddy Agba, who led other traditional leaders to the event.
Others in attendance include a senatorial aspirant, Cross River Central, Hon Chris Agara, Cross River State Chapter secretary, Hon Omaga Odo, Director-general of Cross River State Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau, Barr Alphonsus Ogar Eba, and commissioners as well as the chief press secretary to Cross River State Governor, Mr Christian Ita. The Ogoja Stadium in Ogoja Local Government Area, venue of the event was filled to capacity.
The empowerment programme, which was delayed for few hours because of the governor’s late arrival as a result of another engagement in calabar witnessed speeches by Sen Agabi (SAN), Mr Edim Inok (state PDP chairman), Senator Imoke and Governor Ayade. While speaking separately they took into cognisance the fact that Senator Rose Oko has been a worthy ambassador of the senatorial district through her active participation on the floor of the 8th senate with several bills to her credit and over 35 class room blocks to her credit and other laudable projects.
Senator Imoke speaking in pidgin English said, “Na una own be this oh, na una time so make una play the politics well oh, I dey happy when senate president dey call me tell me say him wan make una daughter chairman for committee for Senate, that one alone na to show say she dey work so make una support am well well”
“If una send boy go there na so so boys go dey follow am”, the former governor concluded by saying that for the love of good things and the party let everyone continue supporting Senator Rose and the PDP.
Senator Agabi, in his opening remark narrated a great story of an oinster which he pictured Senator Rose in, he noted that the senatorial district was blessing by virtue of the blessings that accompanies a widow as stipulated in the Bible and urged the people of northern Cross River to support her if they loved and respected him, as a teacher per excellence while giving his speech the people paid keen interest and attention and ended his speech in grand style.
Also making his remarks, Mr Inok, who led other PDP state executives, took charge of the microphone as he swiftly in a ph emphatic manner urged the people to show appreciation for everything that Senator Rose has done by respecting her. He said, “The PDP has endorsed senator Rose for second term, so all of us must support her totally”.
The five PDP local government Chapter chairmen of Cross River North got Jeep each in a symbolic presentation by Governor Ayade. Keys of Seven Peugeot vehicles was given to constituents cutting across the senatorial district and a Sienna bus to the DG of Team Rose. Also the five local area got 8 cottage industry items for rice mill, groundnut oil mill, and corn mill machines.
During the empowerment event, 54 motorcycles, 27 tricycles, 12 sewing machines, 47 grinding machines, 9 generators, 800 bags of fertilizers, and grants of N20,000 to 133 constituents were distributed.
The recipient of various empowerment materials were grateful for the senator that she remembered them in her usual way and prayed for God’s continuous blessings towards her.
