The Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey Ph D, has pledged to interface with relevant agencies in ensuring the swift passage of enabling laws that will empower the Ministry to regulate the activities of the College of Health Technology in the State.
The Commissioner who gave the assurance during a courtesy visit on him by the Management team of the College of Health Technology in Calabar, stated that the interface in ensuring that the law is passed will enable the institution to benefit from Tetfund programme of the Federal Government.
He commended the Provost for her passion in driving the affairs of the institution and further pledged to liaise with the management team of the college to address any accreditation challenges.
Earlier, the Provost of the College of Health Technology, Calabar, Janet Adah Ph.D said their visit was to identify with the Ministry, while also seeking for directions on issues concerning the the general runnings of the Institution.
She said the law establishing the Institution did not specify any supervisory Ministry, adding that on that ground, the College missed out of Tetfund.
Dr. Adah listed some challenges of the Institution to include: shortage of Manpower, Retirement Age of Non-academics Staff, among others.
Senator Odey informed the College of Health Management team, that as a school saddled with the responsibility to produce qualified graduates who can actively contribute to the health sector, it is imperative to ensure that the college is under the Ministry for proper supervision and guidance.
The Commissioner for Education, further expressed the readiness of the Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu ‘s commitment to reform all the sectors of the State.
