… Collaborates With SAPZs Programs
By Ebriku John Friday
The Federal Government has announced plans to create Special Agro-Processing Zones in all the parts of the country. This was communicated to journalists at a media interview granted by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
Speaking shortly after the meeting with a special delegation from the Africa Development Bank (AfDB), the honorable Minister stated that efforts are in top gear to realize this project and expressed readiness to work with stakeholders in line with the goals and objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said, “The policies that are made at the seat of power in Abuja must translate to real results at the grassroots because that’s where it happens. As you heard from the Director-General of the AfDB (Nigeria) here today these Special Agro-Industrial processing zones (SAPZs) will not be situated in the States’ capitals but in semi-urban areas. So, that’s to say that it will go down to the actual areas where people live. The FG will make sure that happens and we will collaborate with the States Governments.”
ON STATES PARTICIPATION
“The representatives of the Governors are here with us. The first phase had 8 States. Now, 23 States have expressed interest, that’s to say 23 + 8 out of 36 is remarkable.”
ON SECURITY
“Every area has its peculiarity in terms of security. Government at the sub-nationals are working to make sure the project is sited where it’s safe; efforts are being made by the FG to secure this project and ensure that state governments locate it where it’s generally safe.”
ON TRANSPORTATION
“That’s why the SAPZs are targeting those that are around in a specific locality so that you cut losses in terms of transportation. The issue of transportation will be adequately taken care of.”
