PTAD: FG Withdraws Allegations, Vindicates Mayshak Over Misappropriation

The Federal Government at the weekend has withdrawn allegations levelled against former Director General, Pension Transitional Arrangement Department (PTAD), Nellie Mayshak over misappropriation of funds.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr Babachir David Lawal, which vindicates her from the offences.

The letter dated September 26, 2016 with a reference no: SGF.12/S.11/C.1/VI/564 reads in part, “While conveying Mr President’s appreciation to you for your service to the nation during your tenure, may we wish you God’s guidance and best of luck in your future endeavours.”

It will be recalled that PTAD was established to take over the management of Civil Service Pension Department, the Police Pension Office and the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Office (CIPPO) in handling the old pension scheme in Nigeria, which Mayshak also immensely contributed to its establishment and success.

Her amiable character and the high level of professionalism she displayed while performing her duties within the ambit of the law and the Act establishing the organisation has been attested to by pensioners.

Although, the Federal Government in a bid to hide flaws for wrongfully accusing the embattled DG decided to apologise to her verbally and in secret.

Several groups, stakeholders, and even pensioners have called on the Minister of Finance to  without further delay publish the report of the investigative panel so that all will know the true position of what actually transpired.

They also criticized the action of the government insisting that issues of national importance be treated with justice, transparency and accountability as her case had lingered since February 2016.

According to a source from the federal Ministry of Finance the committee that was set up by the minister to investigate the allegations that were levelled against the pioneer DG absolved her of all the accusations.

“What we expected from the Minister of Finance was to issue a letter of apology to Mrs Mayshak for the wrongful suspension that led to her loss of job”, the source said.
