· Urges FG to ensure transparency in handling of COVID-19
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has expressed dismay over the growing spate of insecurity in parts of the North, leading to the death of many innocent people.
In a statement issued yesterday by National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Abdul Gombe, the party urged President Muhammadu Buhari to rejig the country’s security architecture in a way that would contain Insurgents, bandits and other criminal elements terrorising the country.
Miffed by the the gory attacks and wanton killings in the country, the PRP urge the federal and state governments to take urgent steps to save the country from the fangs of terror.
The party said, “The recent killings in Katsina, Zamfara, Borno and some other part of Northern Nigeria by insurgents, armed bandits, kidnappers and other violent crimes are becoming very unbearable. These criminals have turned Nigeria into a war zone even when the country is not at war.
“We are almost persuaded to conclude that the resurgence of insurgency sand criminal activities in the country, including the rising cases of rape is indicative of the failure of the Buhari administration to keep with one of the pointers of its campaign promises, which is tackling insecurity in the land.
“But while we still appreciate the efforts of states and federal government in combating crime across the country, the PRP is of the view that it is not good enough. We, therefore, hold strongly that the country’s security architecture requires a total overhaul and rejigging that would necessitate a change of tactics against terrorists”.
PRP consoled all the families of those who fell victim of the gory attacks by banditry, kidnapping and insurgency, urging to take solace in fact that the blood of their loved ones will draw justice from Almighty Allah on the terrorists and criminals.
“To families that have lose their loved ones to the evil attacks of insurgents, bandits, we Urge them to find solace in the fact that the criminals will not escape the wrath of Almighty Allah”.
The party similarly urged the state and federal governments to ensure transparency in handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the utilization of funds donated to combat the scourgents.
Expressing concern over the much anticipated recession and the deepening poverty taking hold on the country, Gombe stressed that the agricultural sector has employed some of the poor people in the country, hence the need for government to critically assess the impact of the pandemic on the sector to prevent the poor from rebelling.
The party had previously warned government against pushing the poor to the wall by the indefinite extension of the lockdown order to curb the spread of COVID-19, warning that it could result in famine and the near-total collapse of the economy if productivity, especially in the agricultural sector, was not sustained.
On the impending recession occasioned by Coronavirus and the fall in oil prices, the PRP urged the government to introduce measures that would stabilize the economy after the pandemic.
The statement noted: “Government needs to look at areas mostly affected by the pandemic and intervene directly to enable them restart commercial activities in order to create employment and ensure that businesses return back to normalcy.
“Henceforth, government must begin to think of different ways to generate revenue outside of oil, as oil prices have become very volatile and unpredictable, hence the need to find other alternatives”.
