The outgoing Police Commissioner in Ekiti State, Mr Abdulahi Chafe has urged governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties in the state to abide by pre-primary agreement reached with the leadership of their parties.
He also admonished officers and men of the state command to always be civil while carrying out their duties and dealing with members of the public.
Chafe who is bowing out after thirty-two years in service, said adhering to such agreements will ensure a peaceful and smooth process.
He spoke yesterday ,shortly after the valedictory parade held in his honour at the command headquarters in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state capital.
The police boss who disclosed that the heads of the security agencies held meetings with political parties leaders and other stakeholders in the impending election said the efforts was to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free outing.
“We held meetings with the parties and stakeholders on the need to conduct themselves peacefully and shun violence.
Apart from APC, PDP and SDP will hold their primaries on 8 and 10 of May respectively. While MPN and others will have theirs at a later date.
“We equally met with those who have come to conduct the primary on the same issue. we learnt there were agreement reached on the delegate list, the acceptance of the outcome of the primary among others.
“With their affirmation, whoever goes against this, it means such a person is not sincere about the it the whole thing”.
The Nasarawa State Governor, UmaruTanko Al-Makura led five-man committee, inaugurated by the national leadership of APC is billed to conduct the governor primary on Saturday are already in town.
Other members of the Committee are, Hon Magaji Aliyu (Secretary); Mr Duke Oshodin; Barr. Robert Okwuego and Mr Tunde Balogun.
The governorship primary, which will produce the flagbearer of the party ahead of July 14 governorship election in the state will be held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti.
Chafe who described Ekiti as the state with the record of lowest crime rate in the country warned the politicians against truncating the peace.
” All hand must be on deck to sustain the relative peace being enjoyed in the state. The politicians have assured us on this”.
He called on the police officers to avoid materialism, saying urge to amass wealth was responsible for corruption and myriad of problems facing the country.
The police boss said with the fight against corruption in the country by the present administration, graft will be reduced to the barest minimum.
