PMB To Declare e-Nigeria Int’l Conference Open As Event Now Commences Nov 28

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has said President Muhammadu Buhari will declare the 12th Edition of e-Nigeria International Conference, Exhibitions and Awards has now been slated to commence on Thursday, 28th November, 2019.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Affair and External Relations, Mrs Hadiza Umar and made available to journalists on Sunday.

The three days event which was earlier scheduled to hold from 12th– 14th November, with the theme: ‘Leveraging Technology and Indigenous Innovation to Attain the Sustainable Development Goals’, will now hold from 28th– 30th November, 2019 in Abuja.

The statement reads in part, “The Conference will also feature discussions on: Creating New Job Opportunities and Economic Development Through Technological Innovation; Harnessing Indigenous Innovation and Creativity for Poverty Reduction in Nigeria; Leveraging Disruptive Innovation for Achieving Good Health, National Security, Anticorruption, and Sustainable Energy Systems; and Implications of Data Protection Regulation for Open Data, Big Data Analytics, and Smart Initiatives in Building a Productive National Economy.

“e-Nigeria is Nigeria’s annual Information Technology Conference hosted by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), a Federal Government Agency under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.”

It added that the event is hosted in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders from both the public and the private sector as well as Non-Governmental Organisations and Academia. It serves as a platform for ICT awareness creation, development of appropriate regulatory instruments and best practices in order to facilitate the positioning of Nigeria in the global Information Society.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, will declare the Conference open while Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, will deliver the keynote address.

“The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, is the Chief Host, and the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi CCIE will co-Host and Convener of the event,” the statement added.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is a Federal Government Agency under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy. NITDA is established in April 2001 to implement the Nigerian Information Technology Policy as well as coordinate general IT development and regulation in the country. Specifically, Section 6(a, b, c & m) of the Act mandates NITDA to create a framework for the planning, research, development, standardization, application, coordination, monitoring, evaluation and regulation of Information Technology practices, activities and systems in Nigeria; provide guidelines to facilitate the establishment and maintenance of appropriate infrastructure for information technology and systems application and development in Nigeria for public and private sectors, urban-rural development, the economy and the government; and accelerate internet and intranet penetration in Nigeria and promote sound internet Governance by giving effect to the Second Schedule of the Act.
