Our Reporter

These are not the best moments for the Accountant General of Ondo state, Mrs Toyin Oni as she has been severally and jointly accused by her subordinates of high handedness and indiscriminate posting of accountants to places.

Mrs Toyin Oni

She has been running from pillar to post to find a way out of the crisis she is facing so that the governor can pardon her for flouting financial regulations.

The most shocking of the current problems of the AG is that she unilaterally wrote a memo to the Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu to obtain the approval of the sum of N48 million for the purpose of the installation of Information Technology systems in some government offices.

In the memo she dated June 16th, 2021, with reference number FON/AG/1947/14, the Accountant General wrote through the finance commissioner but eagle eyed Auditors in the state warned her that she has no right to wire a memo to the governor directly on the issue of ICT without the input of the State Information Technology Agency.

The burble burst when Mrs Oni carried put a posting exercise which affected so many Accountants in selected MDAs.

One of the affected Accountants said the Accountant General was targeting only those who belong to the accounting family of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) while she is replacing them with those who belong to her professional body, ICAN, especially in the juicy MDAs.
