The Honourable Minister of State, Power, Goddy Jedy-Agba, OFR, has been conferred with a highly revered “Jarman Matasan Najeriya” title by the Northern Youths Council of Nigeria, (NYC).
In a brief ceremony held on Thursday in his office in Abuja, the Minister was also inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame.
Speaking, the Minister said that he was humbled by the recognition especially as it came at a time where all Nigerians need to unite and for the peace and progress of the nation.
He said that “I feel delighted and honoured for this. It is a good thing that the NYC finds me, a South-Southerner worthy of this. I’m a detribalized Nigerian because I don’t believe in North and South but we can’t run away from the reality that the country is divided in regions or zones and I’m from the opposite end”.
While reiterating that the honour will spur him to rededicate his life even more to service of the nation, he called on the youths to shun all social vices and be focused in working to ensure the development of the country.
“As you said, I chose service when I would have easily considered other options. My life of humble beginning should be an inspiration to Nigerian youths. I enjoin our young people to shun drugs abuse, cultism, prostitution and all kinds of social vices.
I encourage you all to be more focused and dedicated to the service of Nigeria. My desire is to see you all climb into leadership positions ; you’re not too young to be President, Governors, Ministers, Senators, etc. But to achieve these heights, you must be ready to work hard and believe in the ingenuity of this great country “.
He assured the council of his supports and partnership to take their good governance and unity advocacy to every part of the country.
Earlier, the President of the organization, Dr. Isa Abubakar said that the Minister was selected from a pool of many because of his dedication and commitment to the development of the country.
He maintained that the Minister’s record from when he was in the civil service till now are overwhelming as he has been a great blessing to the nation, Nigeria.
Abubakar said that “the leadership of this organization is happy with your contribution to the development of this country. We believe that we should encourage and appreciate good leaders like you when you’re alive not when you’re no more.
We thank President Muhammadu Buhari for giving technocrats like you opportunity to continue to serve Nigeria. You’ve spent your essential years serving this country; without people like you, development will suffer. You’ve brought your experience into the Power Ministry and the results are overwhelming today. And for this, we’re decorating you with the “Jarman Matasan Najeriya”.
