NANS Denounce ‘Elected’ Impostors, To Hold Fresh Convention In Six Weeks

Following the suspension of its convention held in Gombe, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) yesterday denounced certain impostors who have been parading themselves as duly elected officers of the organisation, stating that as the laws of the nation and the Constitution of NANS stands, no one has been elected as President.

This was stated in a press conference by the Convention Chairman Comrade Prince Miaphen who was duly elected by delegates of the convention with a majority of 71 votes.

Comrade Miaphen who was flanked by the four Zonal Coordinators of NANS stated that having emerged as the Convention Chairman, miscreants armed to the teeth with dangerous weapons, such as axes, guns, knives, etc invaded the convention venue  whilst officers of the Nigerian Police who were there to provide security for the delegates vanished into thin air, leaving the delegates at the mercy of the hoodlums.

This he said prompted him to call of the convention after due consultations with a broad spectrum of aspirants, delegates and stakeholders.

Prince Miaphen also noted that with the disruption of the convention and the knowledge of resources invested in the convention that it was only reasonable that a timeline of six weeks be considered in order to allow for a transparent, credible, free and fair election within the next six weeks, whereas a substantive date and venue would be announced for the 31st NANS Convention within the next ten (10) days.

Miaphen commended the Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Student Affairs, Comrade Nasir S Adhama for his support for the organisation and his refusal to meddle with the affairs of the body, which was a new precedent, unlike the past where Special Assistant’s sought to impose candidates.

Comrade Miaphen finally described all those parading themselves as  elected officers of NANS as impostors and  criminals urging  the Nigerian students and the general public to disregard such people whilst calling on the appropriate security agencies to apprehend and prosecute them.
