Rev. Tor Uja, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, formally resumed duty at the Corporate Head Office of the Commission on plot 1348 Ahmadu Bello Way, Garki 2 Abuja on 23rd May, 2016 after the baton of leadership was handed over to him by his predecessor, John Kennedy Opara. The appointment of Rev. Tor Uja as the Chief Executive of NCPC was approved by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR and took effect from 19th May, 2016.
Rev. Tor Uja was born on 28th August 1957 in Ushongo, Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State. He attended St. John’s Primary School, Gboko, Benue State.
He attended the Murtala College of Arts and Science, MUCAST, Makurdi from 1977-1978. In 1978 he was admitted into the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communication and graduated in 1981.
He proceeded to the University of Jos where he obtained a Master of Science Degree in International Relations and strategic studies in 1987. Uja enrolled for his Doctor of Philosophy Programme (PHD) in Benue State University, Makurdi and he is expected to round off the programme any time from now.
Uja who is a seasoned Journalist has held several strategic positions of trust in the Government as well as in the Private Sector since graduation. He was the Editor in-Chief, official Unilag Mass Comm. Magazine from 1980 to 1981 and Deputy Editor, Sunday Voice Newspaper from 1986 to 1987.
He served as Chapter President Field Rep and NEC member at the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International from 1988 to 1991. Since 1998 to date he served as the Grand Patron in the Student Union Government, Benue State University, Makurdi, the Joint Campus Christian Fellowship, Benue State University and also Grand Patron of the Joint Campus Christian Fellowship, University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
At the age of 25, he was appointed the Honourable Commissioner of Information and Social Development in Benue State as well as Hon. Commissioner of Commerce and Industries from 1987 to 1988. Uja also served on the Advisory Board of the Benue Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and was later appointed as the Chairman of Benue Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) where he served for ten years from 2005-2015.
Uja who was recently appointed by Mr. President as the Chief Executive of Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), and assumed duty on 23rd June, 2016. He will pilot the affairs of the Commission for a period of five years and renewable for another five years.
The NCPC helmsman has variously been described as a man of integrity, excellence, purposeful, visionary, versatile and God Fearing.
He is a committed Missionary of high repute and has traversed the length and breadth of the world preaching the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He is happily married to his wife of 35 years, Berry Uja, and the Marriage is blessed with lovely and wonderful Children. Together, they have five wonderful daughters: Nguemo, Wanter, Nguter, Nguuma, and Ushakuma, who are all lawyers.
