My good people of Oredo West constituency, the long-awaited day is finally here. As anticipated, December 1st is upon us, and in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) elections timetable, the campaign for the States House of Assembly kicks off today.
As a candidate for the Edo State House of Assembly under our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I want to use this medium to send a message to all my supporters across political parties, ethnic and religious affiliations. As I have always emphasized prior to my emergence as the party’s candidate, I am more interested in the collective good of the people and won’t go to the extreme, whereby anything can be sacrificed at the altar of politics; that is a No-No for me.
The foundation they say is a reflection of what would be built on it. To this end, I would like to set the records straight as the campaign process is a foundation for what is to come. In line with my promise to do things better and differently, I shall not be part of this political menace that is often common with campaigns and elections in this country.
Firstly, the use of unruly thugs that intimidates and harass those in opposing political parties will not be found in my campaign team or entourage.
Secondly, I shall not condescend into politics of calumny or mudslinging. As a well-cultured son of the ancient Bini Kingdom, I wasn’t trained to hew insults on people whether they are younger to me or elderly. And as I won’t do it, no member of my campaign team has the right to insult any candidate or his supporters.
Thirdly my campaign will be strictly issue based as I have always done even before becoming my party’s candidate. I will tell the people what I represent and what we all stand to benefit when I emerge as their representative.
Lastly, we should all bear in mind that irrespective of the political party we are coming from, we all are one big family in Oredo West. We are in one way or the other related by either bloodline, friendship, neighbors, etc. And the transient election period should not tear the long-standing relationship and love we have for each other.
In the coming days, a detailed script of my manifesto will be made available to the public.
I sincerely believe that the voice of the people will be heard and upheld.
To all my supporters please, you must share in this my values going into the election as we are here to set a new and better yardstick for effective governance.
