As President Muhammadu Buhari arrives Katsina for the start of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Katsina State ward congress committee led by Barr. Mohammed Tanko Zakari, has promised to ensure free, fair and hitch-free congresses.
Zakari, who is also the National Deputy Treasurer of the APC, gave this indication at a press conference in Katsina, adding that the committee appointed by the National Working Committee of the party has provided equal opportunity for any member of the party so desirous of contesting for any of the ward congress offices to have the privilege of running for the election.
“On those areas where there are no contests, we have the permission of our national headquarters to conduct our congress by way of consensus or affirmation as the case may be. Where we have more than one person that purchase forms, we are going to into actual election and the winner will emerge by simple majority of the votes cast at the ward congress,” he said.
According to him, the guidelines for ward congress were made available to all interested members of the party and INEC staff would be available in all the 361 wards across the state to ensure that the processes were conducted under the supervision of INEC.
“We have also invited the representatives of all the security agencies to provide adequate security to ensure that whoever is coming out to participate in the ward congresses would be assured that his safety will be guaranteed,” Zakari added.
He assured that new entrants into the party were not denied the opportunity to contest for the ward congress offices provided they were registered and financial members of the APC.
He said: “We have an appeal committee that is also set up by the national headquarters of the party for each state. So, any party who is not satisfied with the conduct of the election has a right to appeal to the appeal panel and his grievances will be looked into and remedied accordingly.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari would participate in the conduct of the ward congress in Sarkin Yara ‘A’ ward in Daura Local Government Area of the state where no fewer than 26 ward executives would emerge in a total of 15 polling units in the ward, LEADERSHIP Sunday checks revealed.
