Int’l Women’s Day: ECOSOCC Seek Implementation Of Agenda 2063

As the world celebrate the UN international Women’s Day, the African Union, Economic and Social Cultural Council, (AU ECOSOCC) has stated that implementation of the Agenda 2063 of the African Union, would strengthen the defense of women’s right and agenda equality.
The Council in a statement by the chair of Women and Gender Cluster, Dr. Fatma Mehdi, said solidarity among women around the world is essential for their survival, defense and advancement.
She said: “Women in African continent and in the world are dealing with the effects of political situations, violence, extreme poverty and natural situations caused by the destruction and over-exploitation of nature, including mining companies. These situations are affecting the lives of all women worldwide, and we are challenged to find creative modalities to confront it. We organize ourselves and continue to advance our actions and struggles in order to discover and establish alternatives for women to live fulfilled quality lives.
“In Africa, we know that women are facing difficult situations caused by war, poverty, displacement, violation of human rights and wrongful treatments. Women and children are often the first victims in these conflicts and natural crises, but women also can bring about change in these hard times and make a true difference in the lives of their families and nations.
“With this strength and inspiration we seek from all the men and women who came before us, and young boys and girls who side-by-side walk with us, to prepare for the implementation of the 2063 Agenda of AU in order to achieve a mobilization that strengthen us in the defense of our rights and gender equality, and advance the freedom and peace for women and peoples. Solidarity among women around the world is essential for survival, defense and advancement.”
She said, women who are suffering from nations like Saharawi and Palestinian who are seeking for self-determination should be supported.
“Today more than ever, our world needs our solidarity, our unity and support to women all over the world, with all African women and the people who are suffering in many African places or who still fighting for their right to self-determination such as the Saharawi and Palestinian people among others, in their struggle for freedom, peace and dignity. Women of the World, we are on the march until we are all free,” he said.
