Group of 50 Reps Members Clarify Stance on NNPCL GMD Removal

A group of 50 House of Representatives members today issued a statement clarifying their position on the recent call for the removal of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL). The statement comes in response to a press conference held two days ago by a group of 15 colleagues who advocated for the GMD’s removal.

While acknowledging the right of their colleagues to express their views freely, the Group of 50 emphasized the importance of following established parliamentary procedures. They noted that a similar matter was recently debated and referred to the joint committee on midstream and downstream for further investigation. In light of this ongoing process, the Group of 50 believes it is more appropriate to await the committee’s findings and recommendations before taking any further action.

“We respect the views of our colleagues, but we believe that the proper channel for addressing this issue is through the legislative process,” said [Name], a spokesperson for the Group of 50. “By adhering to parliamentary procedures, we can ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.”

The Group of 50 expressed their commitment to strengthening the credibility of the 10th Assembly and emphasized the importance of allowing the ongoing investigation to run its course. They called for unity among members of the House and urged all parties to prioritize the national interest.
