Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has commended a corps member, Sulfat Aliu Oyindamola, for empowering about 70 women and youths in the State with skill acquisition for self employment as her personal Community Development Service (CDS) project.
The Governor made the commendation at the graduation ceremony marking the end of the four week intensive training for the beneficiaries in Yola, the State capital.
Represented by his Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation, Hajiya Aisha Bello, Fintiri approved for the immediate data capture of all the 70 beneficiaries for further empowerment and government support. The various skills include tailoring, cosmetology, leather work as well as livestock farming.
Fintiri further assured of his Government readiness to support individuals and groups with such laudable projects aimed at reducing poverty and creating job opportunities, particularly for women and youths in the State.
Speaking during the event, the corps member stated that she has always been disturbed at the rate of women and youth unemployment in the society. It is out of this concern that she decided to contribute her little quota towards reducing the menace; and that the NYSC’s Community Development Service (CDS) programme served as the best opportunity and platform to achieve that. The corps member hails from Kwara State and a graduate of Accounting from Lagos State Polytechnic.
In his remarks, the State Coordinator NYSC Adamawa State, Mal. Ibrahim M. Tukur, called on other corps members to emulate Miss Sulfat Aliu by impacting positively on their host communities. Represented by the Head of CDS, Mr. Sumla M. Elisha, the State Coordinator appealed to the members of the public to always support corps members engaging in CDS projects.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Gloria Musa, thanked the corps member and the NYSC scheme at large for the empowerment and for making it possible for them to be identified and captured by the state Government for further support and training.
