In the face of the current fuel crisis nationwide, a civil society organisation, Rescue Nigeria Anti-corruption Network, ReNAN, has urged Nigerians to trust and accept apology rendered by Minister of State Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, following his promise of constant and regular availability of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from April 7, 2016.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Coordinator, ReNAN, Hon. Engema Jumbo, where he said that the Minister has given his words to do what he could to turn around the current ugly situation with measures put in place to ameliorate the plight of Nigerians.
The statement reads in part: “It is really painful to see long queues at various petrol stations across the 36 states of the country, and is an irony because Nigeria occupies the sixth position of world’s largest oil producing country and number one in Africa.
“We in Rescue Nigeria Anti-corruption Network, ReNAN, also feel the pain of Nigerians in this period of fuel crisis. But we want to appeal to Nigerians to exercise more patience with the federal government as it makes frantic effort to solve the biting situation in no distant time.
“We also enjoin Nigerians to trust the Minister of State Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, as he has demonstrated commitment to ensure Nigerians come out of this fuel crisis with long last solutions in just less than a week’s period, which he promised April 7, 2016, for constant availability of petrol in all refuelling stations.
“And Nigerians should accept the humble apology he (Kachikwu) made publicly to Nigerians over his earlier statement of fuel being available as from May 2016, which he is not a magician to do a miracle.”
However, ReNAN in the statement also described the purported call for Kachikwu’s sack as unnecessary. “There is no gainsaying that he must be sacked because he is a human being who also needs advices and solutions from well meaning Nigerians. So, the call for his sack should not be mentioned in this issue,” it added.
