FCT NUJ Election: Nat’l Secretariat clears Umoru, Odugbo, Elizabeth As Credential Cttee Members

…insist committee should go ahead with the election process immediately

By Ebriku John Friday

Ahead of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chapter election, the National Secretariat of NUJ, Friday, cleared Mr Henry Umoru of Correspondent’s Chapel, and Sarah Odugbo of FCDA Chapel as members of the Credentials Committee.

The National Secretariat of the NUJ subsequently cleared the three-member credentials committee for the FCT Council election scheduled to hold in December 2024.

In a letter signed by the National Secretary, Achike Chude, the National Secretariat identified the three member committee as the authentic credential committee members with the mandate to conduct the election.

It reads “We have carefully gone through the petitions against Mr Henry Umoru and Sarah Odugbo with regard to their membership of the FCT Credentials Committee and noted the various allegations against them by Messrs Osaretin Osadebamwen, John Chuks Onuayim, and Victoson Agbenson. The petitions were written and delivered separately.

“A careful investigation of the complaints made against the duo did not produce any evidence to substantiate the allegations against them and the subsequent call for their disqualification from the Credentials Committee set up to supervise the FCT council election.

“The allegations against them were without merit

“Consequently, in reiteration of our earlier directive, Mr Henry Umoru, Sarah Odugbo and Elizabeth Christopher Atteh are to resume their duties unhindered as members of the credetials committee. Kindly assist them in this process with the enabling environment to make the exercise a success.

“The Committee is to liaise with the National Secretariat going forward”.

Recall that the embattled Patrick Osaretin Osadebamwen had petitioned Mrs Sarah Odugbo stating that the chapel failed to remit their check up dues, a claim which was false.

Recall that the sum of N315,000 was remitted to the coffers of the Union under the leadership of Mr Emmanuel Ogbeche

The former chairman of FCTA chapel Mr Kalu Emetu when contacted, confirmed the cheque was handed over.

The committee has been asked to liaise directly with the national body on matters regarding the election.
