Embrace Peace, Shun Violence, NCPC Boss Tells Youths

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Yakubu Pam has enjoined Nigerian youths to embrace peace and shun violence.

He made the disclosure in Jos on 30th April, 2021 during a two day Leadership and Peace Summit organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria, Plateau State Youth Wing.

The NCPC boss who was the guest speaker at the event spoke on ” Promoting Peaceful Co- existence as a Tool for National Development.”

He spoke extensively on peace and violence; thus he urged them to ensure they embrace peace at all times and shun violence.

In the words of the NCPC boss” We cannot talk about peace without nurturing it”. He added, “we cannot talk about peace without the young people”.

He highlighted some of the security threats which are adversely affecting the peaceful co-existence of the people which are: Boko Haram insurgency, farmers Herders conflict, agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Kidnapping, amongst others.

The NCPC Chief Executive defined peace as the ” absence of war, justice,fairness and violence”. He reaffirmed that ” peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice and governance.”

He admonished them to avoid unnecessary competitions, rather they should come together to mediate on common issues affecting them, the state and the nation.

He further urged them to ensure that they reduce conflict and embrace dialogue.
The theme of the two days Leadership and Peace Summit is ” The Christian Youth Leader: Strategizing to Cope with the Challenges of Con temporary times.”
