Again, EFCC Invites Modu Sheriff over PDP Campaign Fund

‎The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited Ali Modu Sheriff, former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for questioning.

A source at the anti-graft agency confirmed this latest development on Wednesday.

“Yes it is true, the EFCC in Borno state has invited Ali Modu Sheriff,” he said.

TheCable understands that Sheriff was invited in connection with the 2015 PDP presidential campaign funds, for which Femi Fani-Kayode, former aviation minister, is being investigated.

If Sheriff honours the invitation, it will be the second time in June that he will be dealing with the EFCC, after turning himself to the agency earlier in the month, in connection with alleged misappropriation of parts of the N300bnBorno state received from the federation account while he was governor between 2003 and 2011.

The EFCC invitation is coming just as Sheriff is facing stiff opposition from some leaders of his party.

On May 21, the national working committee (NWC) of the Sheriff-led PDP was dissolved at a national convention in Port Harcourt.

Following the dissolution of the NWC, a caretaker committee chaired by Ahmed Makarfi, former governor of Kaduna state, was set up to lead the party temporarily‎.

But Sheriff has refused to recognise the new leadership, maintaining that he is still the national chairman of the party.

On Monday, he invaded the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, declaring that his term as chairman of the party would end in 2018.
