As Edo State governatorial electioneering campaigns begins, the flagbeaer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Godwin Obaseki displayed ignorance of projects in the state he wants to govern as he recommended that Institute of Management Science and Technology, Usen be shut down.
Addressing the elders and people of Usen community, Obaseki told them that he would recommend that the Federal Government should shut the school down following the poor academic activities running in the school.
However, he was rudely interrupted by one of the youth who corrected him that the school was owned by the state government and not the Federal Government.
An eye witness Courage Elawure said the gubernatorial candidate apologised and moved on with his speech promising that once elected he would make the area an industrial hub.
The institute which was established under the watch of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion has since been abandoned by governor Adams Oshiomhole. An official of the school who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity said no lecturer or staff ‘ve been paid since January 2016.
He lamented that the state of the school has since degraded with student abandoning their studies there to pursue it in other schools. He said “from available statistics, we ‘ve less than 500 student left in this campus”.
A situation he described as a far cry from a campus that used to boom with a regular campus life.
