The Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Bekwarra Council, Mrs Angela Ugbut-Agboje have appealed to the Cross River State government, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and other concerned authorities to come to their aid over the deplorable conditions of roads in the area.
Mrs Ugbut expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of roads in the community; particularly Ugboro junction while speaking to newsmen recently.
She said that residents, commuters and transporters have been battling to cope with the dilapidated condition of the road, reiterating that the community would soon be cut off from passing through the major road.
“Your Excellency Sir, I humbly plead with you to kindly intervene on the completely dilapidated federal highway through Bekwarra that links our state to Northern Nigeria. It is no longer passable as several trucks have fallen into the deep trenches, thereby blocking the road, particularly at Ugboro junction, stretching up to Abuochiche junction. It has killed economic activities completely, motorists now divert through untared feeder roads, sometimes through peoples compound. The situation is dire, and it requires an urgent intervention”.
Residents of the area have equally lamented the hardship they have been passing through due to deplorable condition of the road and called on the Peoples First Governor, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu and concerned authorities to come to their aids in the intervention and reconstruction of the bad spot.
The roads, according to them have became a nightmare and death trap, as they cannot drive without causing damage to their vehicles. During this rainy season, the road have become unmotorable and has been affecting livelihood of residents in the area.
The HOLGA lamented that the bad roads have also led to increased traffic gridlock and transportation costs, adding that residents are worried about the safety implications of the bad roads and the security of lives and property as commuters and heavy duty transporters now pass through feeder roads causing more damage.
Ugbut appealed to the Cross River State government to come to the aid of the community to save car owners in the area from visiting mechanics as a result of the bad roads in and out of the community and also for farmers to be able to transport their Agro products.
