CSOs rally support for FIIRO DG Igwe, says accusations against him baseless.

As the crisis rocking the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi FIIRO persist over the purported ingenuity of the academic record of the Acting Director General, Chima Igwe and the call for his removal, a coalition of civil society organisations has called for a probe into the actions of the players particularly the leadership of the Senior Staff Union and directors in the institute whom they accused of having unhealthy interest in the call for the removal of the Acting DG despite a clean bill given to him by the ICPC.

Addressing a press conference earlier today in Lagos, the coalition called on the ICPC and the minister of Science and Technology to make public the findings surrounding the imbroglio, just as it urged the Minister to order a probe into the conduct of the arrowhead of the siege on the institute over the past few weeks.

“We can’t afford to continually sacrifice our best on the altar of regional sensationalism, tribalism and blackmail and hence our intervention.” the group said.

“They attempt to frame up the acting DG with the intention of bringing him to public opprobrium and remove him from office. The kernel of this revelation is a plot to discredit his qualifications that qualifies him for the position he occupies.”

They group furthered stated some demands.

“That all players in the game of shame and particularly the leadership of the staff union be probed for their involvement in bringing the name and integrity of the institute to disrepute and for breaking the civil service rule in the engagement of the press without exhausting the internal mechanism of government and her agencies.

That the ICPC again make known and public their finding as regards the issue surrounding the certificates of the acting DG.
