CROSS RIVER GOVT TAKES OVER DISPUTED LAND IN YALA

Following a fact finding mission by Cross River State Government delegation to Yala Local Government Area to ascertain the state of things in the disputing communities of Oba/Itega Okpame on Saturday, the government has decided to take over the ownership of the disputed land pending the peaceful resolution of the matter.

Governor Ben Ayade had delegated his aides led by the Director-General, Cross River State Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau, Barr Alphonsus Ogar Eba to end hostilities and ensure peace is restored between the disputing communities. The affected communities (Oba and Itega Okpame) are in O’oh Ward of Yala LGA.

It was gathered that after meeting with key stakeholders including traditional leaders, chiefs, and youths in Okpoma the Yala LGA headquarters, resolved that all youths in the bush are given 2 hours to leave the bush or to be arrested by the military and joint security agencies from 6pm.

“Village chiefs in affected communities were also given 24hrs to resolve matter or have their certificate of recognition withdrawn.

Youth leaders behind the crisis are to be arrested and prosecuted forthwith.

While the Governor regrets the unnecessary loss of life and destruction of property, he urged the people to maintain peace as Yala has never been associated with violence.

The governor’s message was delivered by the DG Barr Ogar Eba, who was accompanied by the chairman Yala Security Council, Mr Eddy Achi, Hon. Regina Anyogo, Barr. Godwin Offiono, Mr Omaga Odo and Mr John Odey Ohiero.
